Mega Recruitment 2020: Ed-Tech Firms on a Hiring Spree: Planning To Create 3,000 New Jobs Next Year

Mega Recruitment 2020, At least 3,000 new jobs are been created Education tech start-ups. This creates a large number of opportunities for Indian techies

Start-ups like UpGrad, Vedantu, Simplilearn, Dronstudy, Udemy, and CollegeDekho, all belonging to the ed-tech space, are looking at creating at least 3,000 new jobs.

Many of these companies are expected to double their headcount.

According to Amitabh Jhingan, partner at EY Parthenon International, “What we see now are larger cheque sizes with the ed-tech businesses gaining scale. More mainstream PE funds are making investments leading to the perception that there is a rush of investments in the space.”

Ed-tech space has attracted more than $1.5 billion worth of investments. Top investors include Facebook, Tiger Global, GGV Capital, and Matrix Partners, which have invested in at least one ed-tech firm like Byju’s, Vedantu, Toddle and Unacademy over last two months.

upGrad:

upGrad, the headcount has doubled to 1,000 in the last one year. The company is further increasing headcount.

Mayank Kumar the cofounder of upGrad said, “We are growing at 100% year on year – and expect to ramp up 3x next year”.

Most of these tech firms are hiring at entry-level. For instance, upGrad has hired more than 200 graduates and postgraduates from 20 colleges like IITs, BITS Pilani and 115 lateral hires in the last two months.

Simplilearn:

Simplilearn has more than 1,000 employees and is looking at adding 20% to the headcount over this year. The company has raised Rs 187.70 crore in four rounds and is based in San Francisco and Bengaluru with operations in the US and other global markets.

There are more than 3,00,000 learners upskilling from the US and other markets and for this reason, Simplilearn is looking at expanding international operations in the US and Singapore.

Vedantu:

Vamsi Krishna CEO and co-founder said, “Vedantu will explore opportunities to scale impact as it achieves 4x growth and looks forward to adding around 30-40% employees this year”.

CollegeDekho:

CollegeDekho is another company with over 700 employees. The company plans to take the headcount to 1,000 by March 2020. CollegeDekho raised $13 million since its inception in 2015 from investors like GirnarSoft and London-based Man Capital.

Even bootstrapped ed-tech startups like Dronstudy is hiring to strengthen R&D, tech, and marketing teams.
